DAVID PAUL KAY

CONTEMPORARY ARTIST

From 9th – 11th November, David Paul Kay was hosted in our hotel’s YOPO Bar, where he created a unique, signed mural, crafted with pen, pencil and oil on canvas. Guests and residents alike had the opportunity to observe Kay at work as they passed by or joined the bar, where they had the chance to meet with Kay.

The residency and artwork created, supported the global charity organisation

Arms Around the Child.

Following the creation of the artwork at The Mandrake Hotel, Kay’s piece was sold in an auction at Christie’s London King Street location on Friday 11th November. Alongside raising awareness and supporting funds to aid children living in extreme adversity, the auction offered guests a unique opportunity to purchase work from some of the world’s most notable upcoming talents and art icons. The auction was built on the success of the charity’s previous auctions, which enabled it to build a children’s home in Jaipur, India.

Following the charity auction, The Mandrake played host to an exclusive invite-only after-party. Guests will enjoy wine and cocktails and live music from DJ Carli Foxx and observe the abundance of exquisite artwork, including Kay’s following his previous visit, which is displayed throughout the hotel year-round.

The Mandrake excitedly is honoured to host another residency to remember, and delighted to contribute in supporting Arms Around The Child’s growth in building a better and kinder environment for children living in extreme adversity.

“No child should miss out on the most important part of childhood – the love, care, peace and security. This is personal to me. A big part of my childhood was experiencing war, violence and abuse - no child should have to go through it. That is why I immediately said yes to joining the auction. I will be flying to London to create a special piece for “Arms Around The Child’. It will be a 2×2 meter painting called “Unconditional Love”, and I will create it at my favourite and most inspiring place in London, The Mandrake.”
